Medicare Part D

If you’re eligible for Medicare, it’s important to know exactly what benefits you get and how to get them. Depending on where you live, you have different choices. In addition to your regular plan, you can also get a Medicare Part D plan to add prescription drug coverage. That’s important if you take Benicar or Benicar HCT or other medicines.

About Medicare and your eligibility

Medicare is an insurance program administered by the U.S. government that covers medical and prescription drug costs for nearly 40 million Americans. You are eligible for Medicare coverage if you are a U.S. citizen or are a permanent legal resident for 5 or more continuous years and you meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • You are over age 64
  • You have certain disabilities
  • You have permanent kidney failure treated with dialysis or transplant

You can find a tool that will help you determine your eligibility on the Medicare website.

Choosing a coverage plan

  • You can join a Medicare prescription drug plan, or
  • You can join a Medicare Advantage Plan or other Medicare Health Plan that offers drug coverage

The decision about Medicare Part D coverage depends on the kind of health care coverage you have now. Whatever plan you choose, Medicare Part D coverage will help you by covering brand-name and generic drugs at pharmacies that are convenient for you.

For help in deciding which plan is best for you, and to learn more about which plans are available in your area, you can call General Medicare Information at 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227).

You can also learn more on the Medicare website.
