What Is Benicar/Benicar HCT?
Benicar, a member of the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) class, is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, and can be used as first-line therapy. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Benicar and Benicar HCT should not be used during pregnancy.
Benicar HCT combines Benicar and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), a thiazide diuretic, to provide even greater blood pressure reductions. The two classes of drugs are proven to have a complementary effect in lowering blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Benicar HCT is not indicated for initial therapy.
Clinical trials have demonstrated both the efficacy and safety of Benicar and Benicar HCT.
